Night watchmen and night stories in Wolfach
“Listen up, people, and let me tell you.....” can be heard echoing through the streets and alleyways of the town at night. Then the night watchman begins his rounds equipped with a lantern and halberd. With a distinctive voice, he recites the historical hourly texts at several stations. The sounding of his horn signal marks the start at the town hall. The route leads through the main street towards the town bridge, from there along the Kinzig to the Weibergarten and through Schlossstrasse back to the market square. In the past, it would have been his job to remind the tavern stools and night walkers what time it was. It was also his job to make sure that the doors of houses and town gates were properly locked. Today, the night watchman shares his knowledge of this custom for the entertainment of guests and visitors. Gain an entertaining insight into the eventful work of the night watchman in the past.
